after lunch, we checked into the hotel and mom hailed a taxi and got us up to Victoria Peak – one of the must do’s for first-time visitors (for J, of course)
where there is people, there must be food. mom got us a bunch of goodies from the almond cookie shop: almond cookies and all sorts of sesame cookies:
watch the cookie maker!
My mom chatted up with the cookie maker so that’s whom he is looking at.
Victoria Peak is known for its spectacular city views of Hong Kong below.
After Victoria Peak, mom and I had a waffling discussion on what to eat for dinner. We were not quite hungry and we didn’t want to go too far so we consulted J to see if he’s down for… SNAKE SOUP!!
The answer was an obligatory Yes.
蛇王海 “Seh Wong Hoi” (Queen’s Road West between Centre Street and Western Street, Western District, Hong Kong)
Snake!!! It’s a winter treat and before you make a face at me, let me promise that it really tastes like chicken! The soup is thick and has the basics like hot & sour soup, but without the heat and sour taste. It has strips of wood ear fungus, mushroom, strips of snake meat and bamboo shoots. Wonton chips (and lemon grass spice, both provided) go well with the soup. Good stuff.
Since we have guests this time, mom decided to get the Combo – 1) sticky rice with 2 kinds of sausages (regular Chinese sausage “lap cheung”, and blood sausage) – “yeen yeung cheung”; 2) snake broth; 3) snake soup with the ingredients listed above.
After finishing the snake soup, I was already full. The lap cheung and the sticky rice was good but I wasn’t having any of that blood sausage. The broth was pretty good too. Too bad I wasn’t hungry enough.

This cart holds all the goodies

This is the packaging that the combo came in. Soupy but not a spill at all! Cardboard pieces kept everything together.
this is one of the many things i look forward to when i go to Hong Kong.
