5/15 Pastagina (Downtown Los Angeles, CA)
Express Italian. Lunch with C and N here today. I got the #13 Chicken Carbonera with fusilli again (see 5/13 entry). This place has fast, inexpensive customizable pasta with plenty of choices that provides with many variations. The frequent eater card is another incentive. Pasta here can be as cheap as $4.90 and up to 7 or 8 bucks. Not bad!
The gelato station has opened, so I got the black cherry gelato. Yum
I used a coupon for a free McDonald’s Southern Style Chicken Sandwich with the purchase of a large drink. So it’s not really free. But this would definitely be cheaper to hold me over than to order food at the next place…
The sandwich is a little too small to have just one, but maybe with fries and soda it will do. It tastes good but not something that i’d make a point to get when i’m at McDonald’s. I think the only thing I would want to get at McDonald’s by choice is their Big Breakfast (sausage, English Muffin, hash brown, yum). Or something at the Local Menu when traveling.
I want to make a note about The Joint in Beverly Hills, CA – bar and some food, but mostly a music venue. Today I dragged Nacho, K, and Crazy J to check out Shattered Atom (Beaker’s band) for some charity event.
5/14 Costa Alegra (Echo Park, Los Angeles, CA)
Mexican. Hands down, worst $10 burrito ever. Not very tasty, service was poor (slow and unattentive). I was allotted one glass of water that arrived with the meal. The chips came in a small basket. First one is free but after that, it’s $1.50 per additional basket!
Can’t blame R & R for this pick. They’ve never had it either. I guess we should have done our research but oh well. Afterwards, I visited their apartment and peered through their telescope, pointed into neighboring apartment complexes. Nice. I also had a slice of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake.
5/13 At the Famima!! (Downtown Los Angeles, CA) super convenience store, I got a 12 oz black up of coffee, all thanks to the free coffee coupons.
Pastagina (Downtown Los Angeles, CA)
Express Italian. Today I gave this place a try. I forgot who I ate with, but probably the girls in the G group at work. I got the #13 Chicken Carbonara (apple-smoked bacon and chicken in cream sauce) with fusilli. For drink, I had a Fanta Orange (free refills). Read above for my review.
Sakura Japanese Restaurant (Marina del Rey, CA)
Japanese. A bunch of us came here for dinner tonight. Some, it’s the first time, others, a revisit. I got the Sashimi Combination – 11 pieces of tuna. It comes with tempura, miso soup with nori and tofu, and an orange slice. The tsukemono was pickled cabbage ’salad’, and the meal also came with a garden salad. We also had sake. Awesome deal, great taste – but be prepared to wait for a table.
5/11 Today I went to San Clemente with J so that he could visit his family. His cousin threw a Trader Joe’s party at her new place. The start time was awkwardly between lunch and afternoon, so we weren’t sure whether to eat prior.
The family took out/ ordered in from Cafe de Sol (San Clemente CA), a Mexican joint. I had some taquitos, bean burrito (gross), a carnitas monster taco (?). I drank some organic milk at the dinner table.
